Leaders in Training Program
The “Leaders-In-Training Program” was created to provide our Company with a stream of talented individuals who may have the potential to be outstanding future leaders in our organization.
We have determined that our organization would benefit from developing talent in the following key areas. Please refer to the four tracks listed below:
Coding, Program Maintenance, and Project Management
Category Management, Corporate Marketing, Merchandising and Advertising
Retail Logistics, Warehouse Distribution and Supply Chain Management
Consumer & Corporate Communications, Corporate and Retail Finance, Engineering and Human Resources
A Trainee is assigned to only one of the four areas listed above for the duration of the twelve month program. Trainees assigned to the Procurement Track are being trained to become Analysts, the first step toward a Buyer position in our organization. In this position, individuals procure merchandise for more than 200 ShopRite Supermarkets. Trainees assigned to the Logistics Track learn all aspects of warehousing, transportation, receiving and distribution of product. In this track, the trainee will learn the skills necessary to become supervisors within our various distribution centers. Trainees assigned to the Information Technology Track are being prepared to become programmer analysts, the initial step towards a Project Management position in our organization. In this role individuals support program coding and debugging, program modifications and maintenance, program testing, and program documentation and roll out. Perhaps one of the most complex tracks is Support Services. Because Support Services is comprised of all divisions in our organization that do not procure or distribute products in the ShopRite stores, a Trainee’s assignment will vary and is determined based on the Trainee’s background and interest as well as the Company’s needs.
This program, and Wakefern in general, offers a fast paced and a dynamic business environment. Throughout their training, Trainees are required to make vendor and store visits, as well as participate in group projects designed to improve our business operations. They interface with Company Executives and store Owners and are constantly working on improving individual and group communications/presentations skills.
The starting salary is based on the individuals experience and skills. The trainees receive a full benefits package, which includes life insurance, medical, dental, vision, prescription plan, tuition reimbursement, 401(k) and pension plans.
